I used my macro lens along with three extension tubes to get enough magnification. This lens setup, along with a wide aperture, meant that the photos had a very shallow depth of field. I wanted to keep the background blurry which needed a wide aperture. When working in macro photography, the photos have such a short depth of field making it hard to get the whole subject in focus without using a small aperture.<\/p>\n\nTo overcome this I needed to take 12 photos, each one focusing a bit further along the toadstool so I could get all of it sharp. I have never seen a toadstool like this before so it was great to be able to photograph it, the colour was amazing and so vibrant.<\/p>\n\nI was also on the lookout for a purple toadstool which I saw in a New Zealand Fungi book, but unfortunately I never came across one.
